Birds - Plumed Whistling Duck

Stock Photography By Paul Ross

I photographed this facinating species of Duck recently at a nearby dam. A flock had landed and strolled around the area searching for food. However, two stayed and more recently I was lucky enough to see (but unfortunately not photograph) eight babies on the dam. I often hear them at night, as they fly by whistling - a long high pitched whistle. They are pretty birds with barred chestnut colored sides to breast and long white flank plumes.
